Amy Gwilt

A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Amy Naomi Gwilt, age 55 of Cookeville, will be Friday, April 1 at 1PM in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. Jeff Roberts. The family will receive friends Friday from 11AM to 1PM. Amy passed away on March 28, 2016 at her home. She was born July 2, 1960 in Athens, TN to the late J Boyd and Naomi Jones Peck. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Mary Turner. Amy was a graduate of Sweetwater High School class of 1978. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Merchandising and a Master's Degree in Education from Tennessee Tech University where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She was a part of the Positive Behavior Support Initiative for the Special Education curriculum in area schools through her work at TTU, where she "retired" last spring. She was also formerly employed at The Place in the Cookeville Mall. Amy was very involved in her community. She served on many volunteer organizations including Friends of the Appalachian Center for Craft and former president of the Putnam County Literacy Council. Amy loved her animals, entertaining, potting flowers, making improvements on her old house, cooking, Natures Seasons, and her collection of old picture frames. She was a social person known for ending most conversations with "Love you more." She is survived by her husband Steven Gwilt (whom she married December 20, 2005 in Las Vegas, NV), and her son Ben Johnson, both of Cookeville.
