A Celebration of Life service for Betty Sue Huddleston Allen, of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Cookeville, TN, with burial to follow in the Cookeville City Cemetery. Mrs. Allen's family will receive friends Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. and again Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Mrs. Allen died Saturday evening, December 2, 2017. Betty Sue was born November 4, 1934 in Byrdstown (Pickett County) TN to the late Earl McCart and Ruby McDonald Huddleston. She was educated in White County Schools in Sparta, TN and graduated from high school in 1953. She received two degrees from Tennessee Tech University; a BS degree in 1965 and a Master of Arts degree in 1968. Betty Sue married L.A. (Sonny) Allen of Cookeville, TN on July 10, 1953. They celebrated sixty-four years together this July. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Leonard A. Allen III (Candace) of Aspen, CO and Samuel Earl Allen of Nashville, TN; brother, Earl M. Huddleston, Jr. (Faye) of Cookeville, TN, sister, Virginia Nunley of Umatilla, FL and several nephews and nieces. Betty Sue was active in the community; a member of First United Methodist Church, Cookeville; a past member of American University Women; a 1965 charter member of both the Town and Gown Club and the Tennessee Tech (Symphony) Guild. Honorary Pallbearers are the Cookeville Town and Gown members. Active pallbearers will be her nephews and great nephews; Stanley Gene Nunley Jr., Earl McCart Huddleston III, John Carrington Huddleston, Samuel Olen Huddleston, Robert High Bradshaw Jr., William Allen Bradshaw, John Tucker Huddleston and Mason Sims Huddleston. Gifts may be made to: Betty Sue Huddleston Allen History Scholarship Fund at Tennessee Tech University, First United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.
