Betty Brotherton

Funeral services for Betty Joyce Barnes Brotherton, of Cookeville will be held Sunday, August 16 at 4:00 p.m. at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ with Buddy Johnson and Bobby Lane officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 p.m until service time at the church. Due to COVID-19 precautions, social distance measures will be in place. Betty passed away early in the morning August 13, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter, Linda Brotherton Williams (Jeff) of Cookeville; son, John Brotherton of Cary, NC; Grandsons,Travis and Mitchell Williams of Cookeville; aunts, Erlene Holt of Hendersonville, Josephine (Don) Herren of McMinnville; uncle, Dan (Myrna) Vickers of McMinnville; and numerous cousins of McMinnville. She was married to Robert for 60 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie (Sutton) and Pauline Vickers Barnes of Cookeville. Betty was a long time member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. She was born in Warren County, Tennessee on September 4th, 1941. Her family moved around until finally settling in Cookeville. Betty’s love for people led her to become a LPN and achieved high marks in her study. She started working at the local hospital, which led to her dream job working for Dr. William C. Francis until his death. Betty then went to work for Dr. Jain as his nurse supervisor until retirement. Betty loved her children and grandchildren. She loved taking them to the lake and did this up until spring of this year. She also enjoyed cooking, crafting and fishing. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
