Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Olene (Gill) Jared, 96, of the Rock Springs community of Putnam County will be held Wednesday, November 9 at 10am in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Rev. Ramsey (Woody) Russell will officiate. Mrs. Jared"�s family will receive friends Tuesday 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Wednesday 9 am until time of services at the funeral home. Mrs. Jared died Sunday evening November 6, 2011 at Quality Healthcare in Lebanon. She was born March 6, 1915 in Dekalb County, TN to the late Napoleon and Ida Mae Atnip Gill of Wolf Creek, Dekalb County, Tennessee. Mrs. Jared was a life-long member of the Buffalo Valley Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Tennessee Technological University with a BA degree in Elementary Education in 1959. She was a retired school teacher having taught over 41years. She began her career at Laurel Hill School in Dekalb County. She rode a horse to school at that teaching job five miles each way. She taught elementary school at Rock Springs, Buffalo Valley, Denny Seminary, Gentry and Upperman High School. She was the teacher at Rock Springs School a one-room schoolhouse when it closed. She also taught at Upperman High School to finish out her career in 1966. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luke Allen Jared, a sister, Geda (Gill) Craig and five brothers; Lee Gill, Uel Gill, Floyd Gill, Alfred Gill, and William Gill. Her family includes her son, local attorney and former State Representative, Jerry Allen Jared, and daughter-in-law, Sylvia (Fields) Jared, two grandchildren, Matthew Allen Jared and his wife, Dawn Jared all of Cookeville and Jennifer Lea Jared of Nashville, TN; one great-granddaughter, Lucy Jared, sister, Dimple (Gill) Holland of Florence, Alabama and a sister-in- law, Virginia Gill of Cookeville. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
