Funeral services for Clarence Ray Lancaster, 92, of Cookeville will be held Friday, September 21 at 11 a.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Leighton Sissom officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. His family will receive friends Thursday 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Lancaster died Tuesday evening, September 18, 2012 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born January 30, 1920 in Smith County, TN to the late Marvin and Selina Ray Lancaster. Mr. Lancaster was a member of Jefferson Ave. Church of Christ. He was a 1941 graduate of Tennessee Polytechnic Institute (TTU) with a major in Agriculture. On June 7, 1941 he married the former Vera Margaret Swindell of Sparta. In January 1942 they moved to North Carolina where he accepted a position teaching agriculture in high school. In January 1943 the military called and he was assigned to USAAF serving until 1946. From February 1946 to September 1951 served as training officer for USVA. From September 1951 to July 1956 he taught agriculture and was farm manager for the Tennessee School for the Blind. In July of 1956 he began working at Citizens Bank as Farm Service Director and retired as Vice-President and Cashier in March 1983. Following retirement he continued the development of his purebred herd of Angus Beef Cattle. Mr. Lancaster was a long-time member and past-president of Farm Bureau of Putnam County and served on the board of the Putnam County Livestock Association. He was last living charter member of Cookeville Kiwanis having served in all elected offices and serving a term as Lt. Governor for the Division 4 District of KY-TN Kiwanis International. He was a member and past-president of the Agricultural Foundation at TTU, and served as president and commissioner of Falling Water Utility District for over 20 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Vera Margaret Swindell Lancaster (who died November 30, 2011) and his brother, Vinson Lancastger. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Claranell Lancaster; granddaughter, Renea Lancaster, Grandson Daniel Lancaster and wife Andrea; seven great grandchildren, Daniel, Abigail, Carter and Madison Lancaster, Preston and Savannah Parks and Skyler Smith all of Cookekville. Memorial contributions may be made to Happy Haven Children"�s Home, 2311 Wakefield Dr., Cookeville, TN 38501 or Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ, 521 South Jefferson Ave, Cookeville, TN 38501. The Veterans Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will by the Kiwanis Club, Officers and Directors of Putnam Farm Bureau, Preston Parks, Daniel Lancaster and Carter Lancaster.
