Funeral services for Mr. David Boyd Overstreet, 77 of Cookeville, will be held Sunday, September 24th at 3:00 p.m. at Cookeville First Baptist Church. Rev. Scott McKinney and Rev. Bill Stone will officiate. Interment will follow in Welch Memorial Cemetery in Monterey with Rev. Steve Tiebout officiating. David's family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and again Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Mr. Overstreet died Thursday, September 21, 2017 in Vanderbilt University Medical Center. David was born Sunday November 26, 1939 in the Davidson community of Fentress County to the late Estell Claude and Minerva Asberene Kennedy Overstreet. He was a 1958 graduate of Monterey High. Hardworking and always tinkering, David was a business owner, entrepreneur, worked as a sales rep and in retail management. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed working with his hands. He was an avid fan of the Tennessee Vols. David's life was defined by his faith in Jesus Christ and by his devotion to his family. He has been a member of Cookeville First Baptist since 1983. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and especially enjoyed gatherings with extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Edsel, Eugene, Junior, Jimmy and Buddy Overstreet, and by sisters, Edith Ryan, Eunice Powell and Dorene Parker. He is survived by his adoring family, his wife of 43 years, Merilyn Cate Overstreet (whom he married June 1, 1974 in Franklin, TN; sons, TJ (Casey) Overstreet and Ivan Overstreet, all of Cookeville; stepsons, John (Nicole), Louie and Greg (Tonya) Vaden; grandchildren, Will, Oli, Ike and Catey Overstreet; step grandchildren, Elias, Daniel, Nicholas and Alex Vaden, Brittany, Brandon and Brooklyn Wright; brother, Willard (Oleta) Overstreet of Cookeville; sisters, Wiladean Hall of Cookeville, Geraldine Copeland of Murfreesboro, Mattie Lou Click of Centerville, Ohio. and Shirley (Bobby) Bowen of Crossville; and by mother-in-law, Violet Cate of Cookeville. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
