Dawson Phy

Funeral services for Clyde Dawson Phy, 89, of Cookeville, will be held at 11 am Friday, June 7 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Elder Larry Wilmoth officiating. Interment will follow at the Phillips Cemetery in Algood. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 "� 8 pm and again Friday from 10 am until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Phy died Tuesday morning, June 4, 2013 at NHC of Cookeville. He was born April 11, 1924 in Putnam County to the late Dillard Haskell Phy and Lula Ozena Wilmoth Phy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Dorcie and Albert Stockton of Madison, TN. Mr. Phy was a charter member of Post Oak Presbyterian Church and served faithfully in a variety of capacities until his health declined. He was a skilled craftsman having been self-employed for many years as a carpenter, electrician, plumber, etc. with his father building homes from the ground up. He was later employed by American Housing, a former modular home manufacturer in Cookeville. For the last 30 years he worked in the school maintenance department for the Putnam County Board of Education, as supervisor for several years. Mr. Phy was an avid gardener raising a huge garden with his wife Jamie for over 60 years. He enjoyed woodworking and working on small engines. He also enjoyed gospel, bluegrass and country music, having played the guitar. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jamie Allen Phy (whom he married December 26, 1946 in Rossville, GA); two sons David Phy (Lisa) of Cookeville and Mike Phy (Debbie Polson) of Bennettsville, SC; four grandchildren, Travis and Amanda Phy of Cookeville, Michael Phy (Natalie) of Madison, WI and Susan Phy of Laurinburg, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
