Funeral services for Donald "Don"� Richard Medley, 67, of Cookeville, will be held at 1 PM on Monday, October 15, at Cookeville First Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Rev. Pat Handlson and Rev. Ernest Robertson will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday 5 PM to 8 PM at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home, and Monday from 12 noon until time of services at the church. Don was born on March 27, 1945 in Buffalo Valley, Tennessee, to the late Luke and Pauline Maddux Medley. He died Thursday evening October 11, 2012 at Bethesda Health Care Center. Don attended Cookeville public schools, and he graduated from Tennessee Technological University in 1967 with a BS in Agricultural Sciences. During college, Don married his high school sweetheart, Judith Diane "Judy"� McReynolds June 5, 1965 in Cookeville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Catherine Ann & Dale Hunter, his son and daughter-in-law, Donald Richard Jr. and Regina Bilbrey-Medley; and two grandsons, Matthew and Miles Hunter all of Old Hickory, TN; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Martin & Laura Medley, and Mike & Carolyn Medley, all of Cookeville; his mother-in-law, Eva McReynolds; brother-in-law, Stanley McReynolds; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Jan McReynolds all of Cookeville; and a sister-in-law, Susan McReynolds of Nashville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Medley-Jared; and his father-in-law, Walter McReynolds. Pallbearers will be Tom Aitken, Ronnie Ferguson, Dale Hunter, Matthew Hunter, John Koger, and Stanley McReynolds. Honorary pallbearer will be Miles Hunter. Don and Judy have been lifelong members of the First Presbyterian Church in Cookeville, where Don served as an Elder. Don worked for the federal government for 37 years, beginning at the US Post Office during college and ending with the USDA Rural Development Agency. Don's career took him to many communities in eighteen Middle Tennessee counties, working full-time in Carthage for almost a decade. Don had a passion for nature and loved to hunt, camp, hike, and take his jeep off road. His enthusiasm extended to the cattle farm he owned and operated with his brothers at the family farm in Buffalo Valley. Don also had a great appreciation of architecture, helping to design and build the family home, as well as history, taking his family on vacations to visit and learn about historical sites. Don pursued his interest in aviation by taking up the hobby of building and flying radio-controlled model aircraft, eventually becoming a founding member and president of the Upper Cumberland Radio Control Society.
