Donald Sloan

Funeral services for Donald G. Sloan, age 90 of Cookeville, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 23 in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Dr. Melvin D. Felts will officiate. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. His family will receive friends Monday from 10 a.m. until service time. Mr. Sloan passed away Friday evening, December 20, 2019 at Heritage Pointe Senior Living in Cookeville. He was born January 9, 1929 in Cookeville to the late Cordell Hull Sloan Sr. and Martha Lou Howard Sloan. Mr. Sloan was a long-time member of Cookeville First Baptist Church. He served as Putnam County Trustee from 1956-1960. He graduated from Tennessee Tech University College of Business with a degree in Business Management and later began Cookeville's first furniture rental business (Sloan Furniture Rentals) from which he retired after 25+ years. He is survived by three daughters, Gaile Cannella (husband, Bert) of College Station, TX; Marilyn Felts (husband, Melvin) of Hopkinsville, KY and Donna Thorne of Cookeville; sister, Henrietta Bly of Palos Verdes Estates, CA; grandchildren, Christina Cannella Borger (husband, David) of The Woodlands, TX, Steven Cannella of Austin, TX, Michael Felts (wife, Tari) of Hopkinsville, KY, Ashley Felts Boze (husband, Rick) of Hopkinsville, KY, Jonathan Thorne of Murfreesboro, TN, and Heather Thorne of Franklin, TN; great-grandchildren, Violet Borger, Sophie Cannella, Avery Felts, Kendall Felts, and Kentley Boze. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Vera Helen Williams Sloan; and brother, Cordell Hull Sloan, Jr. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
