Memorial Services for Dorothy "DOTTIE" Alberta Key, 95 of Cookeville will be Sunday, Oct. 27 at 2 P.M. at New Hope Baptist Church in Gainesboro, Tn. Her ashes will be placed on her husband's grave in Springfield, Illinois. Visitation will be at the church following services. Bro. Tom Lyles will officiate. Mrs. Key died Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born November 23, 1917 in Springfield, Illinois to the late George Washington and Edith Anna Lee Carter. She was a former resident of Norfolk, Virginia where she worked as a cook at Denby Private School for fifteen years. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church since 1997. She loved to garden, can vegetables, work in flowers and give to those in need. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband Thomas Everette Key, sisters Ruth Young and Eleanor Daniels, brothers Walter and Bob Carter. Survivors include 2 daughters Beverly Matthews of Gainesboro, Sherrie Cauthorne of Doswell, VA, son Thomas J. Key of Cookeville, sister Helen Reich , brother George Richard Carter both of Springfield, ILL., grandchildren: Robert T. Matthews, Janice S. Burkhead, Teresa L. Troung, Debbie Lewis, Margie Barche, Valorie Britt, Jessie Patterson and Thomas Taylor, 10 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren. Memorial Contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church 311 North Murray St. Gainesboro, TN 38562.
