Doyle Hopson was born in the hills near Atkins Arkansas on July 15, 1933. He was first child of the late Earl and Ora Venable Hopson. His father was a carpenter and traveled building power plants during the war just to find work. Doyle thus went to school in eleven different states during this war period. In the ninth grade his family moved to Russellville Arkansas. By tenth grade the family had moved to Muskogee Oklahoma where he graduated from Central High School.
As a boy he loved to hunt with his father and many cousins.
After graduation he enlisted in the Air Force in 1952. He was sent to Germany after basic training and became an electronics technician. When he finished his service, he went to work for Lockheed in Marietta Georgia. He was married to his first wife Mary Ray and they moved to Sunnyvale California in employment at Lockheed. They had a son, John while in Sunnyvale. In 1970 they moved to Cookeville and he became the electronics technician for the Mechanical Engineering Department of Tennessee Tech University.
On May 6, 1985, he was united in marriage to Ann Steakley. They enjoyed thirty-eight beautiful years of marriage until God called him home on Saturday September 9, 2023.
He retired from Tennessee Tech University in 2003. He was a workaholic all of his life and loved electronics. Even after retirement, he subcontracted to firms from Nashville and loved working outside.
He was loved by his family. His sister says he was the best big brother a girl could ever have. He loved and accepted Jesus Christ and before he became ill attended Double Springs Baptist Church on Highway 70 under Harland Johnson.
