Funeral services for MSG Edgar Donald "Ed" Smith, 82, of Cookeville will be held Sunday, August 7 at 1 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Bro. David Dalton and Bro. Tim Buford officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Smith died Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born September 5, 1928 in Overton County, TN to the late Haskell "Hack"� and Judy Myrtle Hill Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of Algood Church of Christ. He was a retired Master Sergeant with the Tennessee National Guard serving from June 1948 to September 1988. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Buford Smith and an uncle, TTU Professor Marlin C. Hill. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Barbara Smith of Cookeville (whom he married September 5, 2000 in Cookeville), brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Wanda Smith of Crossville; sister and brother-in-law, Nell and Walter Daily of Rickman; two nieces, Patricia and her husband Mike Spicer, and Rebecca and her husband James Bilbrey (who thinks of Ed as a second father); and a nephew, Eddie (Kathy) Smith. The family will receive friends Saturday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby D. Lee, Earl Jaquess, Wayne Morris, Billy Jim Little, Sherry Holman, Joy Rhoton and Freda Byrd.
