Elizabeth Carlton

Funeral services for Mrs. Bernice Elizabeth Carlton, 87 of Cookeville will be held Thursday October 18 at 11 a.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crest Law Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Charles Hutchison will officiate. Mrs. Carlton died peacefully Tuesday afternoon October 16, 2012 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family. Born in rural Granville County, North Carolina July 12, 1925, she was reared in the city of Durham, where she met her husband, Everett, and gave birth to her first child, Pamela. The family moved to Cookevile in 1954. In the late 1950"�s she qualified as a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at Cookeville General Hospital, primarily in the Emergency Room. She went into semi-retirement upon the birth of her son, Clark, in l964, but continued to work for various physicians in town and as a private duty nurse. Mrs. Carlton has been a member of Cookeville First Baptist Church since l954. Mrs. Carlton was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Carlton, President of the Dixie Home Furniture Corporation, and her parents, James Arthur and Blanche Flora Tilley Woltz. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela & William "Bill"� Callender of Long Beach, CA; son, Dr. Clark "Skip"� Carlton of Cookeville; two grandsons, Brad (Amy) Haga of Dallas, TX, and Jeff (Rebeca) Haga; great-grandson, Wiley Haga all of Long Beach, CA; two great granddaughters, Reece Haga of Long Beach, and Gabby Haga, of Dallas; her sister and brother-in-law, Doris & Ernie Arms of Hinsdale, IL. Mr. Carlton"�s family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
