Funeral services for Mr. Eugene Sloan Means, 77 of Cookeville will be held Wednesday September 13 at 12 noon at the Algood Family Event Center with Rev. Dow Allen officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in Algood City Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time at the Algood Family Event Center. Eugene died Monday afternoon September 11, 2017 at his home. He was born Wednesday December 6, 1939 in Algood, Tennessee to the late Curtis Sloan and Ruth Kate Norris Means. Eugene, an avid fisherman, was of the Baptist Faith and a graduate of Lincoln County High School in Fayetteville, TN. He earned a BS Degree in Business Administration at Tennessee Tech University in 1980. He retired from the U. S. Navy with 20 years of service. He spent most of his Military Career aboard Nuclear Submarines and teaching ICC Electronics at the Navy Training Center in Great Lakes, IL. Following his military retirement, he retired a second time from Arnold Engineering Services in Tullahoma, TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Eugene Sloan Means, Jr., brother, Gerald Means, and second wife, Barbara Hammons Means. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Nicholas Giordano of Decatur, AL; grandchildren, P. J Giordano and Adrienne (Nigel) Rozario; brother, Harold (Kathy) Means of Fayetteville, TN; and the mother of his children, Elise Means of Decatur, AL. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
