Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Ensor Benedict, 94, of Cookeville, will be held at 1 pm Sunday, September 9, at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Drew Shelley officiating. Interment will follow at Cookeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home. Fran Benedict died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, September 2, 2012, at Galina"�s Homecare in Knoxville, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Edward L. Benedict, sisters Emma Ruth Tallent, Elizabeth Reeves, Mildred Maggart, son Edward Lindle Benedict, Jr., foster daughter Jo Carlton and husband George Benedict. She is survived by her brother Kelly Ensor of South Pittsburg, children Michaele Benedict of Montara, Cal., Jo Anne Walker DeMag of Clinton, Les Benedict of Los Angeles, Cal., and Dan Benedict of Kingston, also grandchildren Nonda Trimis of Woodinville, Wash., Ed Trimis of La Crescenta, Cal., Stacy Morris of Knoxville, Kim Louie of Huntington Beach, Cal., Aloha Benedict Allen of Honolulu, Hawaii, Mikie Benedict Newton of Manchester, England, and Gordon Benedict of Clearwater, Fla., nine great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces Charline Reeves of Arlington, Va., Charles Reeves and Jim Reeves, both of Knoxville, Shirley Maggart Greene of Gray, Bryan Maggart of Powder Springs, Ga., James Ensor of Germantown, Mary Rose Ensor Branyan of Collierville, Kerry Kenady and Donald Kenady, both of Russellville, Ky., brother-in-law John Benedict of Cookeville and stepson Jim Benedict of Jackson, Mich. Frances, the fourth daughter of James and Mamie Ensor, was born in Double Springs on May 16, 1918. A fifth-generation Putnam Countian, her pioneer ancestors came to Tennessee before it was a state and Putnam County before it was a county. She was still a Cookeville Central High School student when she met her future husband Ed, a young TPI engineering student. She returned to Cookeville after his death and was, until mid-August, a resident of Heritage Pointe Senior Living Community. An avid genealogist, she was a member of the Old Walton Road Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, First Families of Tennessee and Captain Sally Tompkins Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy. It was through this hobby that she met her future husband George Benedict, unrelated to her first husband Ed. She was also a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood philanthropic organization, First United Methodist Church of Cookeville and active in Democratic women"�s clubs.
