Funeral services for Mr. Fred Harland McBroom, 70 of Sparta, will be held Thursday October 10 at 1 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Bro. Thomas McCulley officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in Saylors Cemetery in White County. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 – 8 pm and again Thursday from 11 am until service time at the funeral home. Mr. McBroom died Monday evening October 7, 2013 at his home. He was born June 13, 1943 in Putnam County, Tennessee. He served the Tennessee National Guard for over 34 years. Mr. McBroom was an associate with McCord's for 17 years and retired from Progressive Die & Stamping in Algood. He loved the outdoors; enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends; and was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Marie Smith McBroom; father, Kenneth Cecil McBroom; maternal grandparents, Walter and Rittie Smith; paternal grandparents, Sid and Offie McBroom; brother-in-law, Gerald Haynes, and sister-in-law, Wanda Usrey. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Faye Bray McBroom (whom he married April 23, 1965 in Sparta); two daughters and son-in-law, Julia Faye Key of Sparta, Jennifer and Lyle Yantz of Smyrna, TN; two brothers, Eddie and Larry McBroom of Cookeville; sister and brother-in-law, Betty Sue and Jessie Rushing of Cookeville; two grandchildren, William Edward and Amanda Anna Dickson; sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Haynes of Crossville; brother-in-law, Jim Usrey of Sparta; and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Family and friends and will serve as pallbearers.
