Funeral services for Mr. George Edward Taylor, 90 of Cookeville will be held Friday May 23 at 11 am in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Keith Tosh and Bro. Jonathan Nelms will officiate. Interment will follow in Smyrna Cemetery. Mr. Taylor's family will receive friends Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Mr. Taylor died Tuesday evening May 20, 2014 in Life Care Center of Sparta. He was born August 18, 1923 in Willow Grove, Tennessee to the late Granville M. and Vella Pearl Dennis Taylor. A graduate of Willow Grove High School, he served in the United States Army in WWII. He worked for GM Cadillac in Detroit, the Keen Corporation (Bowser Briggs) in Cookeville, and as a Quality Control Inspector at Mallory Controls in Sparta. He was a member of First Baptist Church Cookeville. He leaves a legacy of love as a great husband, an awesome father, and a beloved grandfather and great grandfather. He is fondly remembered for his laid back, worry-free nature, and as a die-hard Atlanta Braves Baseball fan. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, Arthur Taylor; sister, Leila Lowhorn; and by grandson, William Frederick Ray. Survivors include his wife of 62 years Elizabeth Merritt Taylor (whom he married September 2, 1951 in Rossville, GA); son, Larry and wife Connie Taylor; daughter, Amy and husband Fred Ray, all of Cookeville; four grandchildren, Blake Turner Taylor, Rachel Taylor Dalton, Julianne Ray and Laurabeth Ray; and great-grandchildren, Adelyn Dawn Taylor, Elliot Grant Dalton and expected great granddaughter Taylor Wren Dalton Blake Taylor, Kevin Dalton, Fred Ray, Bert Merritt, Wayne Greer and David Huggins will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Tennessee, Inc. Cumberlands Office, 1459 Interstate Dr.Ste 211, Cookeville, TN 38501.
