Funeral services for Mr. Harold Douglas "George" Vaden, age 74 of Monterey, will be conducted Thursday April 30 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Horner Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow in Welch Memorial Cemetery. Rev Tony Barnett and Pastor Terry Clem will officiate. George's family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. George died Sunday evening April 26, 2015 in the Standing Stone Care and Rehab Center. He was born November 8, 1940 in Monterey, Tennessee to the late Athie and Lena Mae Smith Vaden. George was a 1958 graduate of Monterey High School, a retired clerk with the U. S. Postal Service in Monterey; and a U. S. Air Force Veteran. He served many years on the Monterey Fire Department and Monterey Rescue Squad. George was an avid golfer. He was a huge fan and follower of Monterey High School Athletics especially the golf and football teams. He was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilodean Officer and Geneva Miller; and three brothers, Bobby Vaden, Billy Earl Vaden, and Paul Eugene "Boob" Vaden. Survivors include his three brothers and sisters-in-law, Morgan "Mert" and Ann Vaden, Kenneth and Eliese Vaden, all of Monterey, and Calvin and (Ginny) Vaden of Battle Creek, MI; several nieces and nephews.
