Memorial services for Mr. Howell Bernard "H. B."� Garrison, 87 of Cookeville will be held Sunday June 12 at 3 p.m. at Smyrna Church of Christ. James Rogers and Ken Bray will officiate. Mr. Garrison died Thursday June 9, 2011 at his home. He was born November 17, 1923 in Decherd, TN to the late Howell and Belle Matthews Garrison, SR. His family includes his wife of 61 years, Pollyanna Lynn Garrison (whom he married May 19, 1950 in Cookeville); daughters, Lynn Hawkins & husband Jess, Roxanne Self & husband Gary, Betty Boswell, and June Cantrell & husband Allen all of Cookeville; grandchildren, Amy Boswell Heidel & husband Ned of Burlington, NC, John Boswell & wife Jennifer, Alexis Cantrell & Sydney Cantrell all of Cookeville; three great grandsons, Nathan Heidel, Cameron Gaw, and Andrew Boswell; brother, Jim Garrison of Tupelo, MS, and sister, Jean Ernest of Fort Worth, TX. He was a graduate of Franklin County High School in Winchester, TN; received a BS Degree from Tennessee Tech University, and earned at Master"�s Degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Mr. Garrison was an assistant Agriculture Extension Agent in Bedford County, TN from June 1951 until April 1952. He and his wife moved to Livingston, TN in April 1952 where he worked as Agriculture Extension Leader until his retirement in September 1987. He was a member of the National Association of County Agriculture Agents. Serving a term as president & receiving a Distinguished Service Award. He was also a member of the Tennessee Association of County Agriculture Agents where he served as term as vice-president. He was a member of Livingston Rotary Club and Golf Course Superintendents Association of Tennessee. One of his many passions was te4aching 4-H boys & girls about soils & he trained numerous district, state, and Southern Regional winning Land Judging Teams. Mr. Garrison also enjoyed playing golf, landscaping, gardening, & was a well known as a good cook. He won the Southern Regional Hunt"�s Great Spaghetti Cooke-Off and place. He placed second in the National Cook-Off. He cured country hams and helped prepare and served county ham breakfast each year to the State Legislature. The Garrisons were members of Livingston Church of Christ for many years where Mr. Garrison served as a deacon and an elder. After moving to Cookeville in 1997 they became members of Smyrna Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Garrison of Franklin County.
