Jean Frances Herndon Moore passed away Tuesday, October 30th, following a brief illness at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at Algood United Methodist Church on Friday, November 2nd, with visitation from 10am until the 1pm time of service. Mrs. Moore was born on January 3rd, 1924 in Pleasant View, Tennessee to Esther Woodson and Russell Herndon. She graduated valedictorian from Cheatham County Central High School in 1941. From there, she attended Tennessee Polytechnic Institute where she majored in business. After college, Jean worked at the Smyrna Army Air Base with the American Red Cross. In 1945, she married John Thomas "Jack" Moore Jr. and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee where Jack completed his medical studies. Upon completion, Dr. and Mrs. Moore made their home in Algood, Tennessee where they raised their three sons. During that time, Jean was active in her community holding various leadership roles such as President of the United Methodist Women, Cookeville Book Club, and Cookeville House and Garden Club. In addition, she was Treasurer of Algood Methodist Church and received the Long Rifle Award from the Boy Scouts of America. Mrs. Moore is survived by her sons John Russell Moore of Ashland City, TN, James Fraser Moore (wife, Norma) and Dr. Lee Stuart Moore (wife, Cheryl) of Cookeville, TN; her five grandchildren Dr. Jeffrey Stuart Moore (wife, Jill), William Thomas Moore (wife, Heather), Phillip Russell Moore of Cookeville, TN and Avery Margaret Moore of Nashville, TN and Caroline Woodson Moore of New York City. She also leaves four great grandchildren – Cimberly Kaylin Moore, John Thomas Moore, Adin Shelby Jones of Cookeville, TN and Liam James Moore of Tucson, AZ. Jean is also survived by siblings Russell Howard Herndon of Knoxville, TN and Billie Sue Herndon True (husband, Douglas) of Centerville, TN. Lastly, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Moore Jr. and her parents Russell and Esther Herndon. Pallbearers will be Dr. Jeffrey Moore, Tommy Moore, Phillip Moore, Bryan True, Wayne True, Buddy Qualls, Tommy West, and John Darwin. Officiants will be Reverend Vance Johnson and Chaplain Melinda Bilbrey. Memorial donations may be made to the Algood Methodist Church, 135 West Main Street, Algood, TN 38506. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Heritage Pointe Senior Living, CRMC, and Algood United Methodist Church.
