Funeral services for Jerry Craig Overstreet of Cookeville will be held Saturday, February 4 at 11 a.m. at Cookeville First Presbyterian Church. Interment with military honors will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Rev. Pat Handlson and Rev. Ernie Robertson will officiate. Mr. Overstreet died Thursday morning February 2, 2012 at his home following a brief illness. He was born in Conditt Hollow in the Elmwood Community of Smith County, TN to the late Horace Jordan Overstreet and Docia Ann Dickens Overstreet. He was one of nine children. Mr. Overstreet was a US Army Veteran and a member of Cookeville First Presbyterian Church USA. He was employed by Wilson Sporting Goods for several years before joining the US Postal Service where he was employed until his retirement. Mr. Overstreet was well-known in Cookeville and the Upper Cumberland for his Masonic Work. He was a member of Cookeville Lodge #266 F&AM where he served as Worshipful Master in 2006; a member of the Cookeville York Rite Bodies serving as head of Cookeville Chapter and Cookeville Council in 1989 and received the York Rite Cross of Honor in 2000. He was a member of Cumberland Commandery serving as Commander in 1999; member of the Al Menah Shrine Temple in Nashville, and a member of the Cookeville Order of the Eastern Star Chapter # 152. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Flora Ella Tyree, Serena Maberry, Carlene Harris, Lucile Ponder and Ruby Mosley, brothers, Clyde Overstreet and Riley Overstreet. Mr. Overstreet is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marie Frances Holladay Overstreet (whom he married July 14, 1962 in Overton County); brother, J.D. Overstreet and his wife Helen Overstreet of Elmwood. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Cookeville Masonic Lodge # 266 F&AM. Active Pallbearers will be: members of Cumberland Commandery: Michael Bryant, Byrd Clemons, Thomas Key, William Kellman, Kenneth Matheney, William Tracy Thompson, Ronnie Scott, Eddie Scott, and Chad Scott. The family will receive friends Friday 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and Saturday 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Cookeville First Presbyterian Church 20 North Dixie Avenue Cookeville, TN 38501.
