Funeral services for Rev. Jesse Glea Shelley, age 83, of Cookeville will be held at 5:00 p.m, Monday April 12, 2010, at Friendship United Methodist Church at 5454 S. Jefferson Ave with burial to follow in the Paran Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 11, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home and again on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at the church. Rev. Shelley passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born January 8, 1927, in Albany KY to the late Samuel Ellis Shelley and Edith Hester Groce Shelley. Bro. Shelley served the United Methodist Church as a Pastor for over 58 years. He was a graduate of Asbury College, Eastern Kentucky State University and attended the University of KY. During his time as pastor, he also served as an educator in public schools in southern KY and middle TN for many years. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He is survived by two sons: Daniel H. Shelley and Roger (wife Teresa) Shelley of Cookeville. Four daughters: Linda Sellers of Shelbyville, Brenda Reed (husband Taylor) of Cookeville, Jessie Hull (husband Ed) of Cookeville, and Beverly Jo Hall (husband Carl) of Shelbyville. Rev. Shelley is also survived by one brother, Robert Shelley (wife Sally) of Albany KY and a sister-in-law, Velma Lee Shelley also of Albany KY, and sixteen grandchildren: Marlo (Andy) Smith, Wayne Julian, Austin Shelley, Amber Shelley, Lauren Alexander Shelley, Andrew Shelley, Adam Shelley, Rachel Reed (Matt), Betsy Nash (Jonathan), Annie Farley (Jacky), Amanda Allen (Stephen), Rebecca Maynard (Brandon), Benjamin Hull (Leslie), Alice Simcox (Matt), Will Hull, Jill Parks (Adam), and Matthew Hall (Jennifer). Rev. Shelley is also survived by nineteen great grandchildren and many many friends. In addition to his wife, Margaret Undine Norris Shelley, Rev. Shelley was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Julia Marie Shelley Bowman; two grandsons, Jamie and Jeremy Shelley; one brother Melvin Shelley; and one son-in-law, Jesse Sellers. Pallbearers for the service will be family members. Rev. Benjamin E. Hull and Rev. Carl E. Hall will officiate the services.
