Jim "Shamus" Potter, lovingly known as Shamus to his friends and family, left this world peacefully on May 25, 2024, at the age of 72 at American House Senior Living in Murfreesboro, TN. Born on May 31, 1951, in Byron Center, MI to the late Alfred and Elizabeth Potter where he was raised on a dairy farm. Shamus was a man of remarkable intellect and a heart filled with warmth.
Shamus found the love of his life in Gail, whom he married and lived out his days in the Buffalo Valley community in Putnam County where he built his own home. Their fruitful union brought them a son, Bryan Michael (Tina) Potter of Cookeville, and the joy of their lives, grandchildren Macie and Issi Potter. Shamus also leaves behind a legacy of love with his sister, Glady Austhof of Michigan, sister-in-law, Norma Potter, and brother-in-law, Harold Postma, all of Michigan.
A proud Naval reserve and Vietnam Veteran, Shamus received his bachelor's degree in Science with a major in Geology, which paved the way for a diverse professional life. He worked as a Geologist, contributed his technical skills to graphic packaging, and later found his calling as a maintenance specialist.
Shamus' passion for sailing and golf spoke volumes about his joy in life and love for the outdoors. Intelligent and inquisitive, he lived a life that exemplified these traits in every venture he pursued. His passing marks the end of a life well-lived and the beginning of a legacy that will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him. Shamus will be dearly missed and eternally cherished.
