Funeral services for Mr. Jimmy Ray Chaffin, age 62 of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, November 30th at 11:00 a.m. in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Pastor Maston Jackson and Rev. Frank Rogers will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Brown's Mill Cemetery. His family will receive friends Monday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Chaffin died Friday morning, November 26, 2021 at his residence. He was born May 22, 1959 in Cookeville to Ralph and Mary John Hall Chaffin. Jimmy has worked for the Cookeville Gas Department for 28 years, working after his cancer diagnosis until recent weeks. He also served his country in the National Guard as a member of the 278th Armored Calvary Regiment. He was a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving two tours in that war. Jimmy was a kind and gentle man who was always willing to assist others. He was especially devoted to his family. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, traveling in his motor home and antique tractors. In addition to his parents, Jimmy is survived by his wife of 28 years, Elaine Minnear Chaffin, daughter, Sara Ferguson, of Byrdstown; sons, Tommy (Rebecca) Phillips of Cookeville and Jonathan Ray Chaffin of Algood; grandchildren, Daniel Lancaster, Abigail Lancaster, Bailey Phillips, Eli Phillips, Gregory Ferguson, Liam Ferguson, Levi Ferguson, Charlee Chaffin and Jude Chaffin; brother, Johnny (Susan) Chaffin; sister, Karen (John) Adkins; and by mother in law, Lavada Minnear, all of Cookeville. Jimmy's coworkers at the City of Cookeville Gas Department will serve as pallbearers. Members of the 278th Armored Calvary Regiment will be honorary pallbearers. Senior Chief Petty Officer John Adkins, Navy, Sergeant Johnny Chaffin, Air Force, Sergeant Thomas Phillips, Marine Corps and TSgt. Joshua Johnson, Air Force will also serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to Cookeville Regional Medical Center Charitable Foundation Cancer Care Fund, 1 Medical Center Blvd., Cookeville, TN 38501 and/or Hampton's Crossroads Baptist Church, 109 Stallion Road, Cookeville, TN 38506.
