Funeral services for Joanna Oakes Whitefield, 83 of the Boma Community, will be Tuesday, September 27 at 1 PM from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Smellage Memory Gardens. Mrs. Whitefield passed away Saturday night, September 24, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was born June 10, 1933 in Putnam County to the late Joseph Luna and Vesta Anderson Oakes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherrie Whitefield and a brother, Burdean Oakes. She was a member of Boma First Church of God. She was a homemaker and retired factory employee from Wilsons Sporting Goods, Cookeville Pants Factory and Porelon. Survivors include husband of 65 years (Married February 3, 1951 in Cookeville) Bro. Archie Whitefield of Boma, daughters and sons-in-law Debbie and Wayne Mitchell of Silver Point, Millie and Mike Gammons of Mt. Juliet, sister Emogene Jones of Buffalo Valley, grandchildren: Kelly (Charlie) Stiriz of Boma, Nick Mitchell of Cookeville, Travis (Lynnsey) Dedmon and Nicole Gammons both of Mt. Juliet, great-grandchildren: Chaz and Anna Stiriz and Camilla and Marshall Dedmon, special niece Rebecca Maynard and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins. Bro. Tim Sharp and Bro. Luke Wilken will officiate. Active Pallbearers will be Ronnie, Gary and Brian Whitefield, Cody Maynard, Steve Jones and Bobby Julian. Family will receive friends Monday from 3 to 7 PM and after 10 AM Tuesday at the funeral home. Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements (931)858-2134.
