Funeral services for Mr. Joe Walter Adams, age 84, of Cookeville, will be Monday, September 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Smeledge Cemetery in Baxter TN. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again on Monday from noon until time of the service at the funeral home. Mr. Adams entered into rest Friday, September 13, 2013 at his home following an extended illness. He was born December 25, 1928 in Buffalo Valley TN to the late Lon Adams and Priette Harp Adams. Before retirement, Joe was a truck driver with Pelican Truck Lines. Joe loved sitting on the carport in his rocking chair drinking coffee, sharing stories with his friends and family and bird watching. Before his illness, Joe and his wife Elise attended the Sparta Road Church of God. He is survived by his wife, Anna Elise Carter Adams; one son, Gary Adams, of Cookeville; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy and Jeff Urffer of Nashville. In addition, Joe is survived by two grandchildren; Jimmy Adams of Cookeville and JoAnna Adams of Jackson County as well as three great-grandchildren, Austin, Maggie and Shelby Adams. Joe leaves three nieces’ Jessica Urffer, Danielle DeRoche, and Kathy Dunn as well as three nephews; Jeremy and Jeffery Urffer and Kenny Rippetoe. Mr. Adams loved his neighbors and special friends, George and Betty McCormick and Phyllis Julian, and he thought the world of his nurse, Tara Guther. In addition to his parents, Mr. Adams was preceded in death by six brothers: Ferdel, Ernest, Floyd, Milton, Jeff, and Sam Adams, two sisters: Helen Adams and Ruby Ingles, one sister-in-law, Nelline Rippetoe and two brothers-in-law, Glenda Edward Carter and Herbert Rippetoe. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Bro. Frank Davis will be conducting the service.
