Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Anne Woodford, age 69 of Cookeville will be held Thursday June 7, at 1 p.m. at Cookeville First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Dr. Martin Thielen will officiate. Julia's family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and Thursday from 12 noon until service time at the church. Julia died Saturday evening June 2, 2018 in the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She was born Thursday April 7, 1949 in Cookeville, Tennessee to the late Julian Burton and Marie Phillips Dowell. Julia was a member of Cookeville First United Methodist Church. She was a student at Tech Training School, Capshaw Elementary School and a 1967 graduate of Cookeville High School. She received her BS Degree in Human Ecology from TTU in 1971 and her Master's Degree in Educational Curriculum from UT-Knoxville in 1974. Julia was well-known in Cookeville for her volunteer work. She was a regular volunteer at Capshaw Elementary School, Putnam County Library, Cookeville High School, and the Food Pantry at First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Old Walton Road Chapter and P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was Charter member of the John McKnitt Chapter of National Society of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. Julia served on the Cookeville Tree Board and was a member of the Cookeville Historic Zoning Commission. Survivors include her husband of 39 years, James "Jim" E. Woodford, JR (whom she married August 12, 1978 in Cookeville); daughter and son-in-law, Jenna and Tyler Hillis all of Cookeville; son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Kellye Woodford of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren, Leo and Emmett Hillis; and sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Harold Dunsmore of Lexington, KY. Pallbearers will be David Draper, David Ledbetter, Sam Sandlin, Jim Shipley, Jon Josephson, and Trey Bellar. Memorials may be made to Cookeville First United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 165 E.
