Funeral services for Mr. Kenneth "Ken" Harlan Simmons, 87 of Cookeville, will be conducted Thursday November 21 at 1pm in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial with military honors by the Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Bro. Buddy Johnson will officiate. Mr. Simmons' family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and again on Thursday from 12 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Simmons died Sunday morning November 17, 2013 at NHC of Cookeville. He was born July 25, 1926 in Jacksonville, FL to the late James Henry and Nola Ethel Geer Simmons. Ken served his country in the US Army in WWII, in the US Air Force in the Korean Conflict, and later as a member of the Air National Guard. He retired from the Caterpillar Tractor Co. where he worked as a material controller with 40 years of service. He has been a member of Jefferson Ave Church of Christ since moving to Cookeville in 1997. He enjoyed clock making. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gladys Marie Bumbalough Simmons (whom he married April 18, 1949 in Rossville, GA); sister, Melvie Payne of Sparta; brother Archie and wife Delores of East Peoria, IL; and by several nieces and nephews. Members of the Veterans Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.
