Layton Wynn Proffitt, age 16, of Cookeville, passed away suddenly Friday evening February 15, 2019 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Layton was a student at Cookeville High School and member of the Cavalier Football Team. He was fun-loving and quick with a joke or remark to make you laugh. Layton was good-natured, and eager to please, but also protective and loyal to friends and family. He was a great son, grandson, brother and friend. A lifelong resident of Cookeville, Layton was born March 27, 2002 to his parents, Bryan Proffitt and Lisa Eller, both of Cookeville. In addition to his parents, his family includes three brothers, Tyler Eller of Atlanta, GA, Jackie Proffitt and Landon Symes both of Cookeville; sister, Alyson Proffitt of Cookeville; paternal grandparents, Cathy and Phillip Brown of Gainesboro; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Gene and Barbara Eller; and paternal grandfather, Jackie Proffitt. Layton's family will receive friends Monday, February 18th from 3 - 7 p.m. at the River Community Church in Cookeville with a Life Celebration Service beginning at 7 p.m. John Herron and Jim Fox will officiate. Members of the Cookeville High School Cavalier Football team will serve as pallbearers. Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
