Funeral services for Mr. John Leroy Mackie, 80 of Cookeville will be held Wednesday June 29 at 11 a.m. at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Bro. Buddy Johnson and Bro. Charles Williamson will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and Wednesday 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Mr. Mackie died suddenly Sunday morning June 26, 2011 at his home in loving care of his wife and family. He was born February 2, 1931 in Cookeville to the late John Danie and Mary Edna Sloan Mackie. He graduated from Tennessee Tech University in 1957 and has remained a strong supporter of TTU Athletics and the College of Business Administration. He was co-owner and sales manager of IWC (Institutional Wholesale Company) with his brother until his retirement in l997 He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict, and has been a life-long member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Peggy Apple Mackie (whom he married June 28, 1963 in Nashville and would have celebrated their 48th Wedding Anniversary Tuesday); four daughters and three sons-in-law, Melinda & David Anderson of Cookeville, Jennifer Kossman of San Diego, CA, Emily & Alan Brown of Gainesboro, and Susanne & Ron Lee of Franklin, TN; nine grandchildren, Nicole Anderson, Michael Anderson, Jacob Kossman, Zachary Kossman, and Benjamin Kossman, Matthew Brown, Sarah Brown, Sophia Lee, and Jonathan Lee; and his brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy & Shirley Mackie of Cookeville. Active pallbearers will be: David Anderson, Ron Lee, Alan Brown, Danny Maxwell, Ronnie Stout, Phil Hackett, Larry Edmondson, Rick Bellar and Michael Anderson. Honorary pallbearers include Dean Worley, Glen Ramsey, Leroy Henderson, members of the "Romeo Club"� and all IWC Sales Representatives, past and present. Memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ521 South Jefferson Avenue Cookeville, TN. 38501.
