Funeral Services for Mrs. Marie Elrod Herren will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013, at 2 pm from the chapel of Dyer Funeral Home, Cookeville, TN. Mrs. Herren was a resident of Cookeville for 50 years, most recently resided at NHC Healthcare, which is where this earthly journey ended on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, in her 85th year. Marie entered into the pleasures of this life on October 7, 1927, in White County, Tennessee to Prent and Velma Maynard Elrod. A few years later, her sister Emogene was born and they grew up on a farm near Burgess Falls. Marie graduated from White County High School and married LV Herren in 1946. They began raising their family in Sparta, and then moved to Cookeville in 1961. Her memory will be cherished by her four children: Norma Herren Eidson/Richard --Chattanooga; Dan Herren --Knoxville; and of Cookeville, Mark Herren/Della and Sue Ann Herren Smith/David Ray. Granny Ree will also be missed by her four grandchildren, Julie Tullis/Michael -- Chattanooga; Steven Herren/Aimee -- Knoxville; Bryan Herren/Heather -- Knoxville; and Addison Smith/Maegan -- Cookeville. She also left behind 3 great grandchildren (and one forthcoming in July): Miranda, Logan, and Harper; a nephew, David Andrews, and her loving church family at Holladay Church of Christ. The family would like to thank her extended family at NHC for their loving care. Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, LV Herren (2009), and her sister Emogene Andrews (2012). Family will receive friends on Thursday, June 13 at Dyer Funeral Home from 3:00 P.M till 8:00 P.M. Visitation will begin on June 14 at 10 A.M. till the hour of the funeral service at 2:00. Burial will follow in Elrod Cemetery in the Burgess Falls Community. Johnny Fox will conduct the services. Pall Bearers will be the “Green Acres Boys” (Street, Coomer, & Hawkins). She was industrious, as she was overseer of building several houses for resale, aiding her husband in beginning Herren Glass & Mirror, and serving others, especially caring for her elderly relatives, in which gave her utmost pleasure. John 17:4 'I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.' Many people came into her life at various points only to remain in her heart always. Her “family” from 1973-1990 was her school bus children. Mrs. Herren was faithful to the church of Christ through her memberships at Athens, Findley, Willow Avenue and Holladay. Marie was blessed by the church of Christ community here in Cookeville, especially in her last years. Memorials in Mrs. Herren’s name may be left to: Elrod Cemetery, P.O.
