Mary Jo Johnson

Funeral services for Mary Jo Law Johnson, 88, of Baxter will be held Saturday, August 20 at 1 p.m. in the Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with interment to follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Pastor Toby Johnson and John Thomas Johnson, Jr. will officiate. Mrs. Johnson died Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at her home. She was born August 14, 1923 in Portland, TN to the late Dr. Baxter and Gladys Butler Law. After the death of her parents, she and her sister were sent to the Masonic Home in Nashville. After three years they were sent to Baxter Seminary in Baxter, TN. Mrs. Johnson was a long time member of the Baxter Church of Christ. She was active in her community serving in the PTA for many years. She was a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross. She was also a board member of the Adult Literacy program. She was member of the Board of Directors of the Baxter Alumni Association and was instrumental in starting the scholarship program. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Johnson and a sister, Helen Thomason. Mrs. Johnson is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John T. Johnson, Jr. and wife Deborah, Harold Wilson Johnson and wife, Stephanie all of Knoxville, TN; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Johnson Hargis and husband Kenneth and Helen Carroll Johnson Daniels of Baxter, TN; twelve grandchildren, Toby Johnson, Andy Johnson, Christie Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Mary Alice Neal, Betsy Beck, Cara Cardell, Lyle Daniels, Thomas Daniels, Amanda Hargis Burkett, Annie Hargis Longmire and Joshua Hargis, 21 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Johnson"�s grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Maddux, Keith Garrett, Jason Garrett, Chuck Johnson, William Louis Johnson, John Wilcox Johnson, Chuck Neely, Sandy Stanton, Rick Charles, Ray Troop, Brent Bush, Paul Neal, Taylor Beck, Evan Cardell, Jason Longmire and Wayne Burkett.
