Funeral Services for Mary Elizabeth Whitehead, 97 of Cookeville will be Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 11 A.M. from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home with interment in Cookeville City Cemetery. Mrs. Whitehead passed away peacefully Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born October 29, 1915 in Putnam County, TN to the late Ephriam and Nettie Phy Jackson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband, Johnathon Haywood Whitehead, son-in-law Burl Bussell, daughter-in-law Mary Whitehead, sisters Virgie Farris, Dovie Stringer and Jewell Anderson, brother Charlie Jackson. She attended Antioch Church of Christ (where her father donated the land) and later became a member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ and devoted many hours to her church and her faith. She dedicated her life to raising her three children and three grandchildren, and a great grandson. She was blessed throughout her life with good health, a strong mind and a fiesty spirit. Forever a faithful Christian, she enjoyed studying her Bible, singing hymns, cooking for her family and quilting. She was a retired seamstress from Wilson Sporting Goods of Cookeville. Her family includes daughter Bettye Bussell of Cookeville, son and wife John and Suzanne Whitehead of Sparta, her baby Charlene Whitehead of Cookeville, granddaughter Tracy Elizabeth Bussell, granddaughter and husband Linda Lee Bussell Welch and Shane Welch, grandson and wife Troy Lee Whitehead and Gina Whitehead, great-grandson Spencer Fields Bussell Welch, and her boys John Carr and Mike Evans, nieces & nephews: Jess Jackson, Bob & Linda Farris, Holmes & Marg Farris, Jean & Tom Whitlock, Sharon & Charles Howard. Special caregivers: Kristen Miller, Jessica McClain, Samantha Sidwell, Michelle Robbins, and Kacy Minnear. Bro. Doug Goff will officiate. Pallbearers will be Shane Welch, Mike Evans, Troy Whitehead, John Carr, Bruce Moorehead & Donnie Loftis. Family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 7 P.M. and after 10 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
