Funeral service for Michael "Huck" Harold Hawkins, of Cookeville, will be at 12 noon on Tuesday, December 22, at the outdoor pavilion of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at Long Cemetery in Van Buren County, Tennessee. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon at the church’s pavilion. Please practice social distancing and the use of masks are encouraged. Huck was born on August 1, 1962 in Cookeville, Tennessee to Doris Whitehead Hawkins and the late Curtis Harold Hawkins. He passed away suddenly at his home on Friday evening, December 18, 2020. Huck was married to Marsha Hitchcock Hawkins, for 15 happy years. Over the course of their marriage, they had many dogs whom they loved as family members. He is also survived by his mother, Doris Hawkins; sisters, Dana (Mike) Davidson, Alice (Jeff) Peek; nieces, Molly (Rhen) Hughey and Rachel Davidson, all of Cookeville; and uncle, Bill Skelton of Hohenwald, Tennessee. Special friends include Mike Bryant, Mary & Barry Chaffin, and Franc & Angeles Medina. In addition to his father, Curtis Hawkins; he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Shirley and Myrtle Hawkins; maternal grandparents, Horace and Mary Alice Whitehead; uncle, Bill Hawkins; and aunt, Merle Skelton. For 33 years Huck worked in the IT department at Cummins. His roles in IT took him to faraway places like Australia, Belgium, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico, England, Korea, and China. He enjoyed the business travel and was always making new friendships all over the world. The most important things in his life were his wife and family; however, golfing, fishing and his dogs were a close second. He loved family traditions and vacations. Many great memories were made at Dale Hollow Lake and Hilton Head Island. His love of travel and exploring new places took him and Marsha to many amazing places around the world. Sometimes it was just the two of them but on other vacations, his family joined them, including an incredible trip to a Scotland. He was not a man of many words, but he ALWAYS showed he cared. Whether giving you a hug or just aggravating you, that meant he liked you. He especially loved kids and hearing them laugh when he picked on them. Whatever Huck did, he was all-in, whether it was a hobby or working, he gave 100%. It also meant he was on a first-name basis with delivery drivers, because any new project or hobby meant buying all the toys needed for it. One hobby was woodworking where he and Marsha spent many hours working together on projects for family and friends. They will be treasured always. Pallbearers will be Mike Bryant, Boone Bryant, Kobe Bryant, Rhen Hughey, Josh Brady, Barry Chaffin, Tyler Thornton, and Noah Thornton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cookeville Putnam County Animal Shelter, 2650 Gainesboro Grade, Cookeville, TN 38501. Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
