Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Mahler, 90, of Cookeville, will be held Saturday December 6th at 1 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Dr. Jonathan Nelms will officiate. Her family will receive friends Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again Saturday from 12 p.m. until 1pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Mahler was born January 8, 1924 in Algood to the late John Lewis and Dora Elizabeth Mofield Speck and died Wednesday December 3, 2014. She was a graduate of Algood High School. Mrs. Mahler was employed for 18 years with Citizens Bank and retired as an Officer from First Tennessee Bank after 19 years of service. She was a dedicated member of Cookeville First Baptist Baptist Church for 66 years. She served for 39 years as the 5 year old Sunday School class teacher, and also served on the church planning committee, Sunbeam director, and on the church teller committee. She also faithfully served her community. She was a Past President and treasurer of Beta-Sigma-Phi Sorority. She was a member of the Cookeville Pilot Club, the VFW Auxillary, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Cookeville Rose Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Ret. Col. William Howard Mahler; brothers, Haskell Speck, Cecil Speck, Fred Lee Speck; and by sisters, Lucille Guenther and Jonnie Shelton. Survivors include her son, William H. Mahler, Jr. and wife Dorothy Presley Mahler; sister, Pauline Shanks; brother-in-law, Joe Mahler and wife Gini and sister-in-law Betty Hurt and husband Lonnie; and by 42 nieces and nephews.
