Funeral services for Mr. O C Brown, age 85, of Cookeville, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 24 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Hembree officiating. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 - 8 p.m. and again Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Brown passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at NHC of Cookeville. He was born February 5, 1931 in Hardin County, TN to the late Lucas and Bessie Crotts Brown. Mr. Brown was an US Army veteran. He attended the River Community Church and he formerly served as the White County Assistant Tax Assessor. Mr. Brown was well known for his musical abilities. He played bass guitar for numerous bands over the past several years. Most recently, he played with the Cumberland Country Band. He loved to make people smile and never met a stranger. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Dearth Brown, whom he married November 24, 1994 in Cookeville; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Jerri Brown of Baxter, daughter and son-in-law, Mary and John Judd of Doyle, TN; three step-daughters and their husbands, Robyn and Ed Nichols of Statesville, TN, Cheryl and Tim Nesbitt of Pleasant Shade, TN, and Shauna and Darren Nelson of Knoxville, TN; sister, Peggy Brewer of Huntsville, AL; eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Edith Edwards, Geraldine Brewington, and Johnnie Franks; and three brothers, Bobby Brown, Jack Brown, and LA (Jr.) Brown. Serving as pallbearers are John Kimbrough, Jonathon Riggsbee, Sam Riggsbee, James Locum, Dusty McDaniel, Forrest Farrer, and Noah Nelson.
