Funeral services for Mrs. Minta "Pauline" Gritten, age 87 of the Cherry Creek Community of White County, will be held Wednesday December 30th at 11:00 a.m. in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Pastor Maston Jackson will officiate. Interment will follow in Nash Cemetery in White County. Her family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Due to COVID-19 precautions, social distancing measures will be in place. Mrs. Gritten died Saturday December 26, 2020 at Hospice of Chattanooga. She was born September 12, 1933 in Leota, Missouri to the late Roger and Brucey Gross Foster. Following the death of her mother, she lived in Jackson, KY with her grandfather. She moved to Plymouth, IN at the age of 16 to live with her aunt and uncle. After she graduated from West High School in 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Gritten. Pauline and Wayne then moved to Crown Point, IN, where they raised their family. They remained in Crown Point for over 30 years at which time Pauline owned and operated a beauty salon. . They moved to Sparta, TN in 1983 and Pauline worked as a desk clerk at the former Howard Johnson hotel. Pauline is described admirably by many as a godly woman. She loved spending quality time with her family. She loved life on the farm, gardening and caring for her flowers. She spent many hours volunteering through church and has been a beloved member of Hampton's Crossroads Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Harold Gritten; and by son, Bruce Wayne Gritten. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda (Tom) Howland of Danvers, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Timothy Howland of Billerica, MA; nieces, Michelle (Derek) Muse of Danvers, MA and Jennifer Howland of Westminster, MA; great grandchildren, Derek Muse, Jr. and Cyrek Muse; and special cousin, Arbutice Ritchie. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
