Reed Ramsey

Funeral services for Mr. Gilbert Reed Ramsey, age 87 of Cookeville, will be held Monday, April 25th at 1 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Overton County Memorial Gardens. Rev. Brent Davis will officiate. Mr. Ramsey's family will receive friends Sunday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again Monday from 12 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Ramsey died Friday evening, April 22, 2016 at NHC of Cookeville. He was born January 21, 1929 in Livingston, TN to the late Luther and Etta Ray Ramsey. Reed was a graduate of Tennessee Tech University with a degree in Agriculture. He was an insurance adjuster with the Farm Bureau for many years, traveling throughout the Upper Cumberland. He was owner of Moore and Ramsey Insulation and later Century 21 Ramsey Realty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Gwen Thrasher and Eudene Boykin; brother, Dr. Alg Ramsey; and by an infant brother. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Carol Ramsey Thornton and husband Richard of Cookeville; grandsons, Reed Ramsey Thornton and wife Christy of Mt. Juliet and Richard ‘Tate' Thornton of Cookeville; three great grandchildren, Chloe, Hollie and Brittany Thornton; brother, Donald Ramsey of Monroe; sister, Delilah Stevens of Lakeland, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; and by his best friend, Bob Hill of Cookeville. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mended Hearts Inc., Chapter 127, c/o Dot Chamberlain, Treasurer, 1420 Yorktown Circle, Cookeville, TN 38501.
