Richard Mcreynolds

December 15, 1949 — August 6, 2020

Memorial services with military honors for Richard Wayne McReynolds, age 70 of Cookeville, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday August 10 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Jeff Wilson will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday from 11 a.m. until service time. Due to Covid-19 precautions, social distancing measures will be observed. Richard passed away Thursday morning August 6, 2020 at his home. He was born December 15, 1949 in Cookeville to the late Walter Winfred and Eva Estelle Brown McReynolds. Richard graduated from Cookeville Central High School in 1967 and attended Tennessee Tech. Richard served his country in the U. S. Air Force, being deployed to Okinawa in support of forces in the Vietnam region and achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was former supervisor at Cookeville Shirt Factory and Fast Food Merchandisers in Monterey. He retired from the Putnam County School System, having worked in facilities and maintenance during his career there. Richard inherited his keen mechanical aptitude from his father and could repair just about anything. If you needed a tool, Richard probably had one in his collection. He was an avid gardener and lovingly cared for his annual vegetable garden, sharing its abundant produce with family and friends through the years. Music, especially 60’s and 70’s British rocker bands, was an abiding interest all his life. Being very proficient at guitar, he could lay down some fine licks while playing along with his favorite records. Richard had a big heart and a contagious smile. He deeply loved his family and he especially loved the time he spent with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janet Johnson McReynolds, they married July 27, 1974; son, Rhyan McReynolds; daughter, Alicia (Tim) Matheney; sister, Judy Medley; brother, Walter Stanley (Stan) McReynolds and his life partner Geeta McMillan; grandchildren, Evann Bryant (fiance, Kevin Young), Grayson Bryant, Levie Kate McReynolds, Mack Cooper McReynolds, Rhyan Emerson McReynolds, Hannah Matheney, and Isaac Matheney; one great-grandchild arriving in February; and sister-in-law, Judy (John) Kirkpatrick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Susan McReynolds; mother and father-in-law, Edward and Cleo Johnson; brother-in-laws, Don Medley and Jerry Johnson; sister-in-law, Jackie Newby; and grand-nephew, Miles L. Hunter. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s name to Tennessee Kidney Foundation (37 Peabody St, Ste #206, Nashville, TN 37210) or other charity of your choice would be a gracious remembrance of Richard. The family would like to thank the staff at Davita Kidney Care, Cookeville Regional Medical Center nurses and staff, along with Drs. Robert Comparin, Lora Worsham, Anju Mendiratta, Stacy Brewington, and especially Dr. Lee Ray Crowe for their service and care. Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
