Funeral services for Mrs. Rose Moody Roberson Stewart, 83 of Cookeville will be held Saturday January 7 at 1 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crossville City Cemetery. Dr. Randall Adkisson will officiate. Mrs. Stewart died Monday afternoon January 2, 2012 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born May 10, 1928 in Gretna, Virginia to the late Edgar Paul and Rose Moody Roberson. She was Valedictorian of her Huddleston High School graduating class in Bedford County, VA. She earned her BS Degree in Music Education from Meredith College in Raleigh NC and a Masters Degree in Music Education from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Mrs. Stewart taught piano in Cumberland County and also taught 5th and 6th grades at Baker?s Crossroads. She was retired Music Professor at Tennessee Tech University. For more than 30 years she played the piano at the prestigious President?s Open House serving five TTU Presidents. She taught private piano for over six decades. In addition to playing the piano, Mrs. Stewart loved playing the organ, trombone, cross stitching, knitting, crocheting, softball short stop, golf, bowling and participating in social clubs. She was member of Cookeville First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Overton Copeland (O.C.) Stewart (who died January 12, 2011); and her brother, Edgar Paul Roberson, Jr. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Meredith & Gene Hay of Hixson, TN; sister-in-law, Anne Roberson, nieces, Diane (Jon) Graft and Marilyn Roberson, great nieces, Mary and Elizabeth Graft. Pallbearers will be Frank Tittle, Rev. Charles Hutchinson, Dr. Larry Peach, Dr. Joe Sharp, Jerry Joyner. Mrs. Stewart's family will receive friends Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
