Rufus Edward Dillard

A Memorial Service is being planned at a later date for Mr. Rufus Edward Dillard Sr., age 83, of Monterey TN. Mr. Dillard passes away on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at his home in Monterey following an extended illness. He was born March 19, 1927 in Monterey TN to the late Rufus M. and Emma Dee Keith Dillard. Mr. Dillard was retired from the city of Monterey where he spent many years serving as the Operator of the Monterey water plant. Before going to work for the city, he worked with the Monterey Texaco. His favorite pass-time was fishing. His family includes his wife Johnnie Mae McCormick Dillard of Monterey: two sons, Rufus E. (Eddie) Dillard Jr of Summertown TN and Michael Lee Dillard of Ann Arbor MI. He is also survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Cela Dillard Erck and Phillip of Newfane NY; one step-son, Ronald (Ronnie) Frankford of Dexter MI and four step daughters and sons-in-law; Deborah and Ronnie Smith of Piedmont SC, Lorraine and Michael Lewis of Dexter MI, Elaine and Kyle Kenny of Las Vegas NV, and Mary L. and Greg Dodson of Sparta. Rufus is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Daisy Dillard Boyd and Carroll of Union SC: a sister-n-law, Joan Dillard of Decatur GA and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, J.T. and Ina McCormick of Monterey. He was grandfather to thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and had several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers; Louis, Gilford, Lilburn, Willis, and John Roy Dillard: and two sisters; Ruby Dillard Smith and infant sister Anna Ruth Dillard. The family has chosen cremation.
