Russ Quay

A Celebration of Life for Isaac "Russ" Quay II, age 75 of Cookeville, will be at 6 p.m. Friday December 3 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Rev. Bill Stone will officiate. Entombment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Crest Lawn Cemetery. His family will receive friends Friday from 4 p.m. until time of the service. Russ passed away Tuesday November 30, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born June 9, 1946 in Lewistown, PA to the late James Russell and Erma Drake Quay. Russ attended Virginia Military Institute (VMI) on a football scholarship for two seasons. He then transferred to Tennessee Tech University (TTU) and continued to play football and complete his education. Upon graduation from TTU, he took various teaching and football coaching positions. His stints included Tifton and Wrightsville, GA, and Bellwood Antis, PA. He eventually moved to Mt Union, PA where he served as teacher and head football coach, finishing his career as a high school principal. Upon moving back to Cookeville, he worked 10 more years in teaching, coaching, and administration at Bledsoe County Middle School in Pikeville, TN. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol Stitt Quay; children, Lisa (Dan) Templin of Morristown, TN; Heather (William) DiPietro of Brentwood, TN, Russ (Tanda) Quay of Cookeville; sister Margaret (John) Graff of Hebron, KY; brother, David (Karen) Quay of Lewistown, PA; grandchildren, Patrick and Riley DiPietro, Skyler Hickey, Rivers and Blaise Quay, and Lexie Lesko. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Sanford Quay of Pikeville, TN. Memorial contributions may be made to International Christians and Jews, P.O.
