Graveside services and interment for Mrs. Anna Ruth Barnes, 93 of Cookeville and formerly of Fayetteville, TN, will be held Friday July 15 at 11 a.m. at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville. Rev. Tom Smith, former minister at Cookeville First United Methodist Church will officiate. (Additionally, a Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 24th at 3pm at Heritage Pointe Senior Living Community in Cookeville). Mrs. Barnes died Tuesday July 12, 2011 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born January 25, 1918 in Monterey, TN to the late Pascal Adolphus and Mary Italy Neal Kirby. Mrs. Barnes lived most of her life in the Howell Community of Lincoln County. She was active in her community were she was a member of the Howell Cumberland Presbyterian Church; and a long-time Volunteer with the Lincoln County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. After moving to Cookeville in 2005, she joined Salem United Methodist Church. She also joined the Algood Senior Citizens and became an avid quilter. Until recently when her health declined, she and a group of ladies met every Tuesday and Thursday for several years working on quilts to be auction at the Algood Quilt Festival. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, John T. Anderson and Colyar Barnes; two brothers, Neal Kirby and Charles Kirby, and one sister, Veatrice Alred. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Alice & Wayne Spain of Cookeville; two sons, and daughters-in-law, Tom and Valerie Anderson of Nashville, Earl & Cindy Anderson of Ripley, TN; six grandchildren, Chris (Kristen) Anderson, Lindsay Spain, Ashley (Stan) Davis and Sarah Anderson, Nathan Anderson, and Rachel Anderson, three great grandchildren; brother, Edwin Kirby of Columbia, TN; and three sisters, Sue Nunley of Kingston, TN, Elizabeth Redmon of Vicksburg, MS, and Martha Stewart of Huntland, TN. Mrs. Barnes"� family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Algood Sr. Citizens Center, 125 4th Ave, Algood, TN 38506 or to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
