Ruth Gibbons

BAXTER-Ruth Maxwell Gibbons, 89 of Baxter, died Friday, September 29, 2023 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 16, 1934 in Putnam County, TN to the late Hollie Vaden and Naomi Florilla Gentry Maxwell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Gibbons on September 15, 2016, a son Jeffrey "Jeff" Mark Gibbons on May 10, 2021, brothers Earl and Lenell Maxwell.

She graduated from Cookeville Central High School and attended Middle Tennessee Beauty School, where she was named Who's Who in her class.

Ruth was a retired mail clerk at the Tennessee Tech University Post Office. She also was a beautician for many years at Opal's Beauty Shop in Baxter.

Ruth attended Baxter First Baptist Church until her health declined.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law James David and Teresa Gibbons of Baxter, grandchildren: Travis (Lindsey) Gibbons, Cierra Gibbons all of Baxter, Mark Thomas ( Chelsea) Gibbons of Merced, CA, great-grandchildren: Lucas and Lilly Gibbons of Baxter, Darian and Darrow Gibbons of Merced, CA, sisters Joann Brown of Baxter, Dorothy (Gene) Jolicoeur, Edith (Jerry) Rector, Barbara (Hildon) Wilmoth, Debbie (Charles) Bean, brother Harold (Becky) Maxwell all of Cookeville, host of nieces and nephews, brother and sister-in-law Earl and Herma Gibbons of Bellbrook, Ohio.

There will be a private family memorial graveside service held at New Home Baptist Church Cemetery in the Boma Community for the interment of James, Jeff and Ruth at a later date.
