Funeral services Dr. Scott Hayes Northrup, Tennessee Tech University Professor Emeritus, of Cookeville will be held Monday January 15th at 1:00pm at Trinity Algood. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Pastors Mike Campbell and Jim Moore will officiate. Scott's family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 p.m. 3:00 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and again Monday from 11am until service time at the church. Dr. Northrup died suddenly Thursday, January 11th, 2018 at Center Hill Lake from an apparent boating accident. Born November 10, 1951 in Lamar, Colorado to the late Robert and Ruth Williams Northrup, Dr. Northrup earned his bachelor's degree from Northern Colorado University and his master's degree and doctorate from University of Colorado. Moving to Cookeville in 1980, Dr. Northrup joined Tennessee Tech faculty as a professor. His distinguished, impactful and influential career spanned 35 years. He served as chemistry department chair from August 1997 to August 2005 and also as the department's master's program coordinator. Widely published, he was awarded TTU's Caplenor Faculty Research Award for outstanding faculty research accomplishments in 1988 and the university's Sigma Xi Research Award for outstanding contribution at TTU in 1982 and 1987. He was awarded the University's Outstanding Faculty Award in Teaching in 2015. Post retirement, he continued to serve as faculty advisor for the Tech Bass Fishing Team. Scott's bright mind and giving heart were also displayed at Trinity Algood, where he has been actively involved in Trinity's Music Ministry since he joined the church in 1992. He was a director of the church's NetMinders Ministry, a men's discipleship and outreach ministry that provides Christian fellowship and fun for men who enjoy fishing, since its inception in 2008. He was also a founding member of God's Jail Ministry. Scott and wife Chris have led Little Flock Bible study for 25 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Northrup. He is survived by his wife and ministry partner of 38 years, Christine Conniff Northrup; brother, David Northrup and wife Cheryl of Lamar; nieces and nephews, Nathan (Giovanna) Northrup, Graham (Stephanie) Northrup, Carey (Megan) Northrup, Camella (Jeff) Iund, Jonathan (Maria) Northrup and Kara (Danny) Pratt; and by countless numbers of students, faculty, church family members and others who have been profoundly impacted by his life. Chris Warren, Mike Meihls, Jonathan Howard, Richard Key, Chuck Ogle, P. Chris Burnett, Jon Burnett and Dr. Jeff Boles will serve as pallbearers.
