Thurman Julian

BAXTER-Funeral services for LT. Thurman J. Julian, US Navy (Retired) age 78 of the Boma Community, will be Friday, September 25 at 10 AM at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment with military honors by the Veterans Honor Guard will be in Smellage Memory Gardens in the Boma Community of Putnam County. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 7 PM and after 8 AM Friday at the funeral home. Due to COVID-19, social distancing measures will be observed. Mr. Julian died Sunday morning, September 20, 2020 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was born April 25, 1942 in Boma to the late Cecil and Ova Margaret Jernigan Julian. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Katherine Joyce Baird and Helen Lois Julian, brother Herman Julian. He was a 1960 graduate of Upperman High School in Baxter. He was a member of Boma First Church of God. He was a retired Navy veteran with 20 years of service, including multiple tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. After his retirement from the Navy, he moved back to the Boma Community and became a full time farmer of 25 years. He raised tobacco, hogs, goats and cattle. He enjoyed hunting, beekeeping and socializing with family and friends. Survivors include wife of 47 years (Married March 12, 1973 in Alexandria, Virginia) Nhieu Thi Tran Julian of Baxter, daughter and son-in-law Sonya and Justin Lester of Santa Monica, CA, son and daughter-in-law Anthony and Kanda Gail Julian of Baxter, sister Shirley Maynard, brother and sister-in-law Lonnie and Gloria Julian, sister-in-law Beulah Julian all of Baxter, several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Anthony Julian, Sonya Lester, Justin Lester, Bobby Julian, Craig Julian and David Maynard.
