Funeral services for Violet Mai Austin, 87 of Baxter will be Sunday, July 20 at 2 P.M. from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home with interment in Chestnut Mound Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Smith County. Mrs. Austin died Thursday morning, July 17, 2014 at Bethesda Health Care Center in Cookeville. She was born May 23, 1927 in Detroit, Mi to the late Jesse C. and Hester Cardwell Smith. She was a homemaker and member of Dillards Creek Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband of 48 years Houston Austin, infant daughter Anna Frances Austin, sister & brother-in-law Dimple and Mack Keith, 3 brothers-in-law John A. Austin, Tillman Austin, Adron Horton, 3 sisters-in-law Sandra Austin, Dorthey Smith and Ann Austin. She loved to play rook and make chocolate pies. Survivors daughter and son-in-law Sue and James Bruce of Baxter, 3 sons and daughters-in-law Garry & Cricket Austin of Baxter, Rickey & Gail Austin of Silver Point, Jerry & Linda Austin of Cookeville, brother & sister-in-law Johnnie Frank and Margaret Smith of Nashville, 2 sisters-in-law Anna Lee Horton of Hartsville, Maggie Lou Austin of Dillards Creek, brother-in-law Jimmy Carol Austin of Chestnut Mound, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces & nephews. Bro. John Davis and Houston Austin will officiate. Active Pallbearers will be Steve Austin, Jeremy Austin, Matthew Moore, J.R. Farley, Mike Austin and Willie Keith. Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie Vaughn and John Jones. Family will receive friends Saturday from 4 to 8 P.M. and after 10 A.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
