Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Louise Rivers., age 74 of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, September 7th at 1:00 p.m. at the Dyer chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. John Barnwell will officiate. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Rivers passed away Saturday morning, September 4, 2021 at her home. She was born February 23, 1947 in Cookeville to the late Ernest C. Kirby and Reba Francis Pack Kirby. Mrs. Rivers worked as an office manager at the Tennessee Tech Counseling office. She enjoyed gardening, sowing and watching movies. She displayed motherly traits to her family and friends throughout her life-she was kind , gracious, giving, warm and consoling. She had a great way with dealing with the ups and downs of life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Robert Rivers, who died March 6, 2017. She is survived by her sons, Dana Crouch (fiance, Tammy Stoner) and Roy Crouch, all of Cookeville; five grandchildren, Athena Harris, Dalton Crouch, Mekala Crouch, Shelby Crouch and Dylan Hawkins; sister, Debbie Hicks of Greenville, SC; and nieces, Dr. Katherine (Drew) Hicks Mullen and Dr. Kirsten Hicks. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to Happy Haven Children's Home, 2311 Wakefield Drive, Cookeville, Tennessee 38501.
