Wayne L. Smith

January 18, 1949 — July 14, 2012

Wayne L. Smith was born January 18, 1949 in Overton County TN as the only child to Norma Carlile Smith and the late U. L. Smith. Mr. Smith passed away July 14, 2012 at his home and surrounded by his family and friends. Mr. Smith proudly served his country as a sailor in the Unites States Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After making it safely home he married his sweet-heart, Jeanette McBroom on October 26, 1973. He and Jeanette were married for 39 years. Wayne was a son, husband, father, grandfather, sailor, veteran and above all a man of God and devoted Christian who has gone home to heaven to be with the saints. Wayne is survived by his mother, Norma Smith, his wife, Jeanette Smith, his children of whom he was very proud, Jason Smith (wife Julie) and Shannon Smith Alford (husband Jerry) and loving grandfather to Jason-Robert Smith, Presley Randolph, Bronson Randolph, Zoey Linder and Sophie Smith. He was a charter member of Faith Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church and a devoted career employee of the US Postal Service for 30 years. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father, U.L. Smith. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to Saint Jude children’s Hospital in memory of Wayne to 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105. Please join us for a memorial service to honor and celebrate Wayne’s life on Saturday, July 21, 2012, from 2:00 until 4:00 and service will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the Faith Fellowship Church, 880 West Jackson Street, Cookeville. Bro. Sterl Paramore, Bro. Steve Henry and Bro. John Ward will officiate the memorial service.
