William Meachum

Funeral services for Mr. William D. Meachum, 96, of Cookeville, will be held at 1 pm Sunday, January 20 from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Gaw officiating. Interment will follow at Smith County Memorial Gardens in Carthage, TN. The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 - 8 pm and again Sunday from 11 am until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Meachum entered into rest Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Masters Health Care Center in Algood, TN. He was born November 10, 1916 in Smith County to the late William Campbell and Maggie Eller Apple Meachum. Mr. Meachum was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church and a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II. He started his career as an electrician with Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corp. He then worked with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers for 40 years, retiring as superintendent at Center Hill Dam. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Elizabeth Evans Meachum; and a son, William Campbell Meachum. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Ronnie Dennis of Cookeville; son and daughter-in-law, Doyle "Buddy" and Sharon Meachum of Antioch, TN; brother and and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Wynema Meachum of Carthage; grandchildren, George Meachum of Nashville, Tara and Donnie Puckett of Rickman; special great grandchild, Zane Puckett; a number of other great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
